Commonly Asked Questions

We interviewed a US Coast Guard licensed captain with over 20 years of experience. We asked some of the most common questions we get regarding having an event at sea. Here is what he had to say:

1- How many years have you been doing wedding yacht charters?

Over 20 years. I started off as a deck hand, cleaning the yachts and helping with the lines. Then I would help with the entertainment and music on larger charters. Eventually, I began to learn alongside some of the best captain in the industry and now, I am a licensed captain and navigate a variety of yachts.

2- In your opinion, when is the best time of year to have your wedding  ceremony on a yacht?

I personally like the fall. It is not too hot or too cool, and it makes for some beautiful sunsets.

3- What happens if it rains on my wedding day?

Believe it or not, we can actually move the yacht to an area where it is not raining. Miami is known for it's scattered showers, and they are just that- scattered. Additionally, just because it is raining on land, does not mean it is necessarily raining on the water. But in cases of severe acts of nature, virtually all yachts provide contingency plans to help you deal with anything that may come up.

4- Do you think my guests will get seasick?

One of the great features we have in Miami is the Biscayne Bay area, which makes you feel like you are in the open ocean, when you are actually not. As a captain, I keep the yachts in an area where the water is clam, ensuring a smooth ride. In addition, the larger the vessel, the less you feel the slight movements of the water, as they tend to be very stable.

5- What is your favorite cruise route in South Florida?

My favorite spots to tour are Miami Beach, Brickell, Downtown Miami and Key Biscayne. You get a great contrast between the city of Miami skyline and the calm beautiful turquoise waters.

6- If I have my ceremony on board, is it considered legal?

The great news is, yes! Unlike commercial cruise ships, ceremonies can be help dockside or on board during your charter, giving you the beautiful backdrop to your photos everyone loves.

7- What is your number 1 tip for anyone getting married or having their event on a yacht?

I say: Sit back, relax, and let Be My Guest handle everything for you so you can enjoy yourself on your big day.
